Netanyahu Orders Overthrow of Iranian Regime Amid Leadership Crisis
Benjamin Netanyahu directed Israeli security forces to overthrow the Iranian regime as doubts grow over the survival of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the Israel Defense Forces, the Mossad, and other security branches to overthrow the Iranian regime. Netanyahu stated that the action is necessary to remove the threat of Mojtaba Khamenei attempting to develop nuclear weapons.
The directive comes amid a leadership crisis in Iran. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public since a February 28 airstrike killed his father, Ali Khamenei. Although the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps installed Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader in March and claimed he was wounded, critics have questioned his survival, citing irregularities in a handwritten letter from August.
Iranian state media recently reported that Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf met with the Supreme Leader to discuss military, economic, and psychological warfare involving Israel and the United States. Following this reported meeting, Ghalibaf posted a warning on social media threatening the United States with military casualties and economic instability.
