Police Arrest Protesters During Xi Jinping Visit to White House

Washington D.C. Police arrested several individuals on Thursday during demonstrations surrounding the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House. The arrests took place around 3:20 p.m. near 17th Street and New York Avenue, Northwest, after officers witnessed an assault in progress.

Those detained face charges including assault on a police officer, simple assault, and taking property without right. The unrest occurred as President Xi Jinping met with President Donald Trump for official discussions.

Tensions remained high throughout the evening. Law enforcement officers worked to separate opposing groups consisting of protesters and supporters of the Chinese government to maintain order in the capital.
