India and Russia Expand Energy Cooperation After BRICS Summit

The Government of India and the Government of Russia are conducting technical consultations to expand energy cooperation, which the Indian Ministry of External Affairs describes as an "important pillar" of their bilateral partnership. These discussions focus on strengthening ties in the energy sector, specifically citing the Kudankulam nuclear power project as a successful example of collaboration.

This diplomatic push follows a September 11 meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The two leaders reviewed the "Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership" across several domains, including trade, energy, defense, and space. During the summit, President Putin invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit, an invitation Modi accepted.
