United States Negotiates Ownership of Venezuelan Oil Fields

The United States government is negotiating an agreement with Venezuela to acquire ownership stakes in more than a dozen oil fields. Led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Venezuelan acting President Delcy Rodríguez, the deal targets fields with a production capacity of up to 90 million barrels of crude per day.

If finalized, the agreement would potentially double U.S. reserves and expand Washington's influence in a sector previously dominated by Venezuela's state-owned oil company and Chinese interests. These discussions began privately under the Trump administration before the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
