Israeli Strikes Kill Six Palestinians Despite Ceasefire

Israeli military forces killed at least six Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday through a series of strikes and gunfire. The casualties included three people killed in a strike on a home in the Beit Lahia Project area of northern Gaza and one man killed by a drone strike in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis. Two others died from gunfire, while two additional victims died from injuries sustained in previous shelling.

Israeli military vehicles opened fire on homes and tents for displaced civilians south of Khan Younis, while artillery targeted the Bureij refugee camp and areas near the Wadi Gaza Bridge. These actions occurred despite a ceasefire that reportedly began last October. The Ministry of Health of Gaza reports that 1,296 Palestinians have been killed since that ceasefire took effect.

The escalation follows an August 17 statement by Donald Trump, who asserted that Israel "should not be striking in Gaza." The U.S. president claimed that Hamas had agreed to lay down their weapons as part of a U.S.-backed peace plan.
