Israel Defense Forces Kill Palestinians Amid Fragile Gaza Ceasefire
Israel Defense Forces conducted multiple strikes across the Gaza Strip, killing over a dozen Palestinians and threatening resident expulsions despite a US-backed ceasefire.
The Israel Defense Forces conducted a series of airstrikes, drone attacks, and artillery bombardments across the Gaza Strip between August 25 and August 27, 2026. These operations targeted residential homes, tents for displaced civilians, and humanitarian facilities in Gaza City, Khan Younis, Rafah, and Jabalia an-Nazla. Recent strikes on Thursday killed at least six Palestinians, including a Hamas commander in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis.
These military actions persist despite a US-brokered ceasefire established in October 2025. The Ministry of Health of the Gaza Strip reports that 1,303 Palestinians have been killed since that ceasefire took effect. United Nations officials warned the Security Council that the region is approaching an absolute breaking point due to intolerable humanitarian conditions.
Israeli leadership has maintained a hardline stance on security. Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened to evacuate residents from any neighborhood where kites or balloons are launched, stating such items will be treated as drones. Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir affirmed that plans to demilitarize Gaza and disarm Hamas would continue.
These developments clash with a peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, who asserted that Israel should not be striking in Gaza and claimed Hamas had agreed to lay down its weapons. Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire and undermining the US-backed proposal for Israeli troop withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
