Marco Rubio Says Iran Lost Control of Hormuz Strait

Secretary of State Marco Rubio claims Iran has lost control of the Strait of Hormuz and faces a total economic freefall due to sanctions.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared Wednesday that Iran has lost complete control of the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking to reporters in Athens, Rubio noted that oil flow through the strategic waterway has nearly returned to levels seen before the current conflict began.

Rubio stated that the Iranian economy is in total and complete freefall as a result of crippling sanctions. He asserted that the Iranian government prioritizes funding for Hezbollah and Hamas over its own economy and claimed that Iran attempted to build a conventional military capability intended to make the country untouchable.

Regarding future diplomacy, Rubio maintained that the United States will not accept any agreement that allows Iran to possess a nuclear weapon, stating that the country cannot have such a weapon, period, end of story.
