Ukraine Neutralizes 51% of Russian Oil Refining Capacity

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine claims long-range strikes disabled over half of Russia's oil refining capacity to damage the Russian economy and military logistics.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine announced Sunday that long-range strikes have neutralized 51% of Russia's oil refining capacity. The campaign targeted refineries in Moscow, Yaroslavl, Ust-Luga, Perm, Saratov, and Syzran to hamper the ability of Russian forces to receive supplies and to damage the national economy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted Thursday that the strikes caused Russia to lose approximately 1% of its gross domestic product. He stated that Ukraine partially achieved its goal of economic damage, noting that the attacks targeted oil refineries to damage the economy.

These aerial assaults have intensified as ground progress along the 1,200-kilometer front line has stalled. In response, Russia has increased its own aerial campaign, including a drone attack in Kharkiv that killed one person and the launch of 205 drones into Ukraine overnight Monday. To counter these threats, Ukraine has installed AI-controlled automated turrets in Kyiv to intercept Shahed drones.
