India's Foreign Minister Visits Kyiv Amid Russian Drone Attack
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Ukrainian leaders in Kyiv to discuss peace efforts while Russian drones targeted the capital.
Russian forces launched a drone attack on Kyiv using jet-powered Shahed drones during a diplomatic visit by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukrainian combat aviation intercepted most of the drones, ensuring the safety of the Indian delegation. Zelenskyy stated that the drones were developed with help from Iran.
During the visit, Jaishankar met with Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha to discuss ending the conflict. Jaishankar reiterated India's position that solutions to the war will not emerge from the battlefield and offered India's assistance in peace efforts.
The officials also discussed the security of commercial shipping in the Black Sea, agreeing that blocking food supplies to dependent regions is unacceptable. Jaishankar highlighted how shipping disruptions impact the Global South and noted the recent death of an Indian national in an attack in Kyiv.
