Zelensky Reveals Russian NATO Strike Plot, Escalates Long-Range Attacks

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed leaked Russian plans to strike NATO from Belarus and announced intensified Ukrainian long-range strikes against Russian territory.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed intelligence showing Russia is plotting to use Belarusian territory as a launchpad for strikes against both Ukraine and NATO member states, and announced Ukraine will intensify long-range strikes against Russian territory in response to escalating Russian drone attacks.

On May 15, Zelenskyy announced Ukrainian intelligence had evidence of Russian efforts to draw Belarus more directly into the war, with operational plans targeting either the Chernihiv-Kyiv sectors or a NATO country. The warning followed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's announcement of a rotational mobilization of military units for a possible ground operation. While Belarus has permitted Russia to use its territory since 2022, it has not yet officially deployed its own troops.

By May 16, Zelenskyy disclosed that leaked Russian intelligence documents revealed Vladimir Putin is plotting a strike on NATO territory in the Baltics, using Belarus as a launchpad. The Suwalki Gap was identified as a critical vulnerability, and the documents reportedly listed two dozen political and military targets, including Zelenskyy's headquarters and a state dacha in the Kyiv region. Lithuania and Latvia have fortified their borders in response.

Simultaneously, military exchanges intensified. Ukraine destroyed the Azot chemical facility in Nevinnomyssk and caused a massive fire at a plastics warehouse in Naberezhnye Chelny. Russia launched drone attacks on residential and port infrastructure in Odesa, injuring civilians. Russia reportedly launched 1,428 drones between May 13 and 14, and nearly 300 drones on the night leading into May 16.

Zelenskyy announced Ukraine will intensify the frequency and distance of its long-range strikes, characterizing them as long-range sanctions. Recent Ukrainian strikes have hit targets nearly 1,000 kilometers from the front, including Russian oil facilities, ships, military aircraft, and anti-aircraft systems.
