Donald Trump Threatens Economic Warfare Against Iran and Allies

President Donald Trump threatened unprecedented economic warfare and an economic D-Day against Iran and any nations providing a lifeline to the country.

President Donald Trump has threatened to launch economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale against Iran and any nation providing a lifeline to Tehran. The president characterized the potential escalation as an economic D-Day, warning of tremendous economic consequences for countries that support the Iranian government.

These threats emerge as Iran expands trade and transport ties with Central Asian nations. Kazakhstan recently signed a 27-year agreement to operate a logistics terminal at Iran's Shahid Rajaee port, while Tajikistan is negotiating for 2.55 million tons of petroleum products. Uzbekistan has estimated potential trade and logistics losses of up to $1.5 billion if instability in the Middle East disrupts these transit routes.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested that cooperation with U.S. policy is in the best interest of China, Iran's largest trading partner. While China has historically purchased up to 90 percent of Tehran's oil exports, analysts suggest Beijing may leverage its control over critical minerals to withstand U.S. pressure. The escalation occurs shortly before President Trump is scheduled to host Chinese President Xi Jinping for his first state visit to Washington since 2015.
