Trump Orders Investigation Into Chinese Spy Plot Targeting Nvidia CEO
President Donald Trump announced an investigation into reports that a Chinese intelligence asset targeted Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to funnel information to Beijing.
President Donald Trump announced that the United States will investigate reports of a Chinese intelligence operation targeting Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. The investigation follows allegations that Alice Huang, a Chinese businesswoman linked to the Singapore-based data center company Megaspeed, acted as a Beijing asset and funneled information to China through her relationship with Jensen Huang.
Trump described Huang as brilliant and aboveboard, but expressed qualified confidence in retaining him as a technology adviser on the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. He stated he would keep Huang in the role unless the investigation finds information to the contrary. Reports indicate Trump was briefed on these intelligence findings a year ago but did not act at the time to avoid disrupting Nvidia's commercial ties with China.
Nvidia has denied that sensitive trade secrets or national security information were shared, asserting that Megaspeed received only ordinary business information. The Chinese government and the Chinese Embassy in Washington dismissed the allegations as groundless smears and slanders. Huang has previously lobbied the administration for eased chip export restrictions to China.
