Fed Officials Address Inflation as Chairman Prepares Jackson Hole Speech

Neel Kashkari expressed concern over persistent inflation while Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh prepares a keynote address amid rising bond yields and political pressure.

Federal Reserve officials are signaling concern over persistent inflation as the central bank prepares for its annual research symposium. Neel Kashkari, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, stated that while the US Treasury market remains liquid and functional despite surging yields, he lacks confidence that inflation is returning to target quickly enough. Kashkari, who dissented in July to favor a rate hike, declined to prejudge his position for the upcoming September meeting.

These developments precede a keynote address by Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh this Friday in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The speech comes as inflation has remained above the 2% target for over five years and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has intervened in the bond market.

Warsh faces simultaneous pressure to maintain the Federal Open Market Committee's credibility regarding interest rates and to demonstrate independence from President Donald Trump. Democratic members of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee have requested details regarding communications between the Chairman and the President following reports of regular phone calls.
