Anthony Fauci Establishes Defense Fund Amid Contempt Charges
Anthony Fauci created a legal defense fund after being held in contempt of Congress and facing multiple state investigations into his pandemic handling.
Former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Anthony Fauci has established a legal defense fund to manage costs from escalating state and federal investigations. The fund, structured as a trust with an independent corporate trustee, comes as Fauci faces a subpoena from Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, who is investigating whether Fauci personally profited from his pandemic guidance with support from West Virginia and Louisiana.
Legal pressure intensified after Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment during a July congressional hearing to avoid questions about the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic. Allegations suggest he suppressed internal uncertainties and intelligence regarding a laboratory leak in Wuhan, China, to promote a natural origin narrative. Consequently, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee held Fauci in contempt of Congress, and Senator Rand Paul has urged the Department of Justice to prosecute him.
While former President Joseph Biden issued a preemptive pardon to Fauci in January 2025 for potential offenses dating back to 2014, the current investigations continue. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has assisted Senator Paul's inquiries, including locating Fauci's private diary on government servers. Counsel David Schertler stated that Fauci is facing an "unprecedented legal barrage" and maintains that the former official has not done anything wrong.
