This generational shift is attributed to the conflict in Gaza, protests on U.S. college campuses, and a lack of emotional connection to Israel's historical role as a refuge.

To counter this trend, the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and organizations such as Taglit-Birthright Israel are reinforcing exchange programs and discovery tours. These initiatives aim to foster personal connections among secular and Reform Jews in North America that transcend current political controversies. The Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism is specifically pushing for one-on-one connections between young Israelis and progressive Jews abroad.

These internal social efforts coincide with diplomatic friction between Israel and the United States. While President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched a joint war against Iran five months ago, the two leaders have faced divisions over ceasefire terms. Data from the Israel Democracy Institute indicates a corresponding decline in belief among Jewish Israelis that Trump prioritizes the security of Israel.
