Susan Collins Urges Trump to Resolve Canada Trade War

Senator Susan Collins urged the Trump administration to maintain negotiations with Canada to resolve an escalating trade war that threatens Maine's economy. Collins warned that more than $100 million of Maine goods could be hit by U.S. tariffs, while Canada may impose retaliatory tariffs on approximately $170 million worth of goods.

Collins highlighted specific risks to road salt, concrete, and forest products, noting that one Maine business expects monthly concrete costs to increase by $150,000. To address these concerns, she consulted with the United States Trade Representative on Friday to push for a resolution.

Beyond trade, Collins criticized an executive order from President Donald Trump that renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America. She described the renaming as a "poke in the eye at Canada" and argued that the move lacks logic.
