Modi and Burnham Discuss Strategic Ties and Trade

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, held a phone conversation with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on July 31, 2026, to strengthen the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership. During the call, Modi congratulated Burnham on assuming office and proposed deeper collaboration across several sectors.

The leaders focused on the recently operationalized India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the UK-India Vision 2035 framework. Cooperation will target technology, innovation, defense, security, clean energy, and education. A specific priority was placed on the UK-India Technology Security Initiative and the development of artificial intelligence.

Beyond bilateral trade, the two leaders addressed global stability in the Middle East. They agreed to collaborate on efforts to ensure de-escalation in the region and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
