Judge Blocks Trump Order Limiting Birthright Citizenship

U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman issued a preliminary injunction on Wednesday to block an executive order from Donald Trump that sought to limit birthright citizenship. The order aimed to deny U.S. access to individuals engaging in birth tourism and expand the definitions of those ineligible for citizenship by birth.

In a 35-page opinion, Judge Boardman ruled that the executive order attempted to bypass a previous Supreme Court ruling. She stated that the administration's reasoning relied on a distorted interpretation of the law and the Fourteenth Amendment, noting that no presidential order can undo the decisions of the Supreme Court.

Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the administration expected the ruling. He indicated a willingness to appeal the decision, asserting that the administration would return to the Supreme Court if necessary.
