Republicans Spend Record Cash to Protect Congressional Majorities

The Republican Party is deploying record amounts of campaign cash into traditionally red states to protect narrow congressional majorities ahead of the November midterms. Trump-aligned groups, including MAGA Inc., No Going Back PAC, and Safety and Affordability PAC, have spent over $163 million since September 1, with significant investments targeting candidates like Ken Paxton in Texas and Jon Husted in Ohio.

This spending surge occurs as the party faces a fed-up electorate angered by soaring fuel prices and an unpopular war in Iran. In response, several candidates, including Tom Tiffany and John James, are distancing themselves from White House policies or calling for an end to the conflict. Vice President JD Vance has attempted to bolster the ticket by campaigning in Kansas, Iowa, Ohio, Maine, and North Carolina.

While the Republican National Committee maintains that its financial resources will protect its majorities, some party members acknowledge a difficult environment. Senate Majority Leader John Thune described the current political climate as very competitive, noting the impact of cost-of-living increases and increased Democratic enthusiasm in previously safe GOP strongholds.
