Nirmala Sitharaman Challenges Rahul Gandhi to Debate in Parliament
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to hold debates within Parliament rather than on social media following his challenge to Narendra Modi.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman challenged Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to conduct political debates within Parliament rather than on social media. The exchange followed a demand from Gandhi for a public debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sitharaman argued that Parliament is the appropriate venue for such exchanges and noted that Home Minister Amit Shah had recently offered a special session to discuss Electronic Voting Machines and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. She accused Gandhi and the INDIA alliance of disrupting proceedings and walking out of the House when the government attempted to respond to their allegations.
Additionally, Sitharaman criticized a mock Parliament organized by the Congress party, characterizing it as a mockery of the institution. She urged Gandhi to present evidence-backed allegations and respect democratic institutions, questioning why the opposition would not allow Parliament to function if they were keen on debating.
