Modi Announces Tech Expansion as US Intensifies Iran Sanctions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to build up to eight semiconductor plants and five nuclear reactors over the next seven to eight years. Speaking from the Red Fort in New Delhi, Modi stated the goal is to reach 100 gigawatts of nuclear power capacity by 2047 to ensure India becomes a developed nation by its independence centenary. This industrial push follows economic volatility and rising crude import costs caused by the ongoing Iran-US war.

Simultaneously, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States will implement unprecedented economic measures and maintain a port blockade to force Iran's capitulation after six months of conflict. This strategy aligns with the approach of President Donald Trump, who is utilizing economic pressure to avoid expanding military campaigns. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich supported this direction, arguing that economic pressure and sanctions are the most effective means to weaken the Iranian regime.

Regional tensions remain high in the Strait of Hormuz. The United Arab Emirates recently condemned the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for attacking commercial shipping vessels, including those belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., characterizing the attacks as piracy.
