Trump Signs Reciprocal Trade Agreement With Jordan

President Donald Trump announced a reciprocal trade agreement with Jordan on July 21, 2026, aimed at expanding market access for U.S. exporters and strengthening strategic ties. Signed in Washington by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah, the pact supplements an existing 2001 free trade framework.

Under the terms, Jordan will remove non-tariff barriers and maintain duty-free access for U.S. goods, specifically benefiting agricultural and automotive sectors. In exchange, the United States will cap reciprocal tariffs on Jordanian imports at 10 percent and provide enhanced preferential market access for Jordan's textile and apparel industry. The agreement also includes commitments to protect intellectual property, enforce labor and environmental laws, and modernize customs. Jordan further pledged not to tax digital services and supported the World Trade Organization's moratorium on customs duties for electronic transmissions.

Commercial commitments accompanying the deal include a $1 billion U.S. investment by Hikma Pharmaceuticals and the purchase of Boeing 787-9 aircraft by Royal Jordanian Airlines, totaling $1.9 billion in purchases and leasing. Jordanian businesses also committed to buying over $300 million in U.S. raw materials annually. Both nations intend to continue discussions on services trade and further investment cooperation.
