Shehbaz Sharif Pursues Investment and Regional Peace at UNGA

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif conducted a series of diplomatic and economic engagements in New York during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He met with Pakistani entrepreneurs and professionals to solicit investment in artificial intelligence, energy, and construction, citing reforms at the Federal Board of Revenue to create a more conducive business environment.

On the diplomatic front, Sharif held bilateral talks with leaders from Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon, and Syria. He reaffirmed Pakistan's support for the sovereignty of Lebanon and Syria, specifically offering assistance for Syrian reconstruction and calling for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory. He also pledged support for Bangladesh as it assumed the Presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly.

Addressing regional security, Sharif met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, a framework intended to achieve regional peace. Sharif emphasized the need for de-escalation in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al Mandab. He further condemned terrorist activities originating from Afghanistan, asserting that Pakistan will continue its response until terrorism is completely eradicated from the country.
