UK Deploys RAF Typhoons to Protect Saudi Arabia

The United Kingdom is deploying Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets to Saudi Arabia to defend critical infrastructure against escalating Houthi missile and drone attacks.

The United Kingdom is deploying Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets to Saudi Arabia to protect cities and critical infrastructure from escalating missile and drone attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militia. The mission, approved by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, follows a deadly strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed 13 people.

Wes Streeting, the UK Defence Secretary, announced that the deployment includes an Atlas A400M transport aircraft and military advisers to supplement existing air-to-air refueling support. The British government stated the intervention is necessary to protect national economic and security interests, specifically to prevent regional instability from disrupting global shipping in the Red Sea and increasing energy prices.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom specified that the aircraft will operate in a strictly defensive role, shooting down incoming threats without conducting offensive strikes against the Houthis. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has rebuffed requests for additional military assistance from Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, though he indicated he is monitoring the situation.
