Trump Brokers Gaza Ceasefire While Backing West Bank Settlements
President Donald Trump brokered a Gaza ceasefire deal and reversed sanctions on Israeli settlers as Israel advances the E1 settlement project in the West Bank.
President Donald Trump and his envoys brokered a ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip that provides for the return of hostages and the delivery of humanitarian relief to Palestinians.
Simultaneously, the Trump administration shifted its policy regarding Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank. President Trump reversed previous sanctions on Israeli settlers, and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee stated that the United States does not oppose the E1 project. This project, approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, proposes 3,400 housing units between Jerusalem and Maale Adumim, a move that could potentially bisect the West Bank.
Stability in the West Bank remains precarious as Israel has established 114 new outposts and confiscated approximately 13,600 acres of Palestinian land since October 2023. These developments, combined with military raids and clashes, have resulted in nearly 1,000 Palestinian deaths and 58 Israeli deaths since 2023.
