Netanyahu Orders Dismantling of Illegal West Bank Settler Outposts

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the dismantling of several illegal settler outposts in the West Bank. The move follows pressure from the United States and an appeal to President Donald Trump signed by 550 Israelis, including diplomats and retired military officials, who warned that escalating settler violence could ignite the region.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee reinforced this stance during a town hall with Palestinian-American residents in the West Bank, where he characterized settlers carrying out attacks as "terrorists." Other Israeli officials have used sharper language to describe the situation; former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon compared settler conduct to Nazi conduct, while retired Brigadier General Ephraim Sneh described the situation as "ethnic cleansing."

Despite the demolition orders, military officials report that settlers frequently rebuild outposts quickly, noting that such structures were demolished and rebuilt 160 times over the last year. These developments occur as Israel prepares for national elections on October 26, followed by U.S. elections one week later.
