Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi praised Singh as a visionary statesman. They specifically highlighted his landmark economic reforms as Union Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, which transformed India's growth trajectory and promoted social justice. Kharge further noted the enduring impact of the rights-based framework established during Singh's tenure, including the Right to Information and Right to Education Acts.
Additional tributes were offered by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar specifically recalled Singh's contributions to the development of Bengaluru and the Bengaluru Metro project.
Manmohan Singh served as India's 14th prime minister from 2004 to 2014 and previously held roles as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. He died in New Delhi on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92.
