Trump Weighs Iran Strikes as Diplomatic Talks Intensify

President Donald Trump announced on July 25 that he is undecided on whether to launch major strikes against Iran, stating that Tehran is becoming more serious in diplomatic negotiations. Speaking at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, Trump asserted that the United States will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon and claimed that previous U.S. military actions have already severely degraded Iran's navy and air force, including the loss of 159 boats and 250 jets.

The conflict has entered its fifth month following the collapse of a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding intended to address the nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz. In retaliation for U.S. attacks, Iran has targeted assets in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain, with the Revolutionary Guards claiming to have hit an Amazon data center in Bahrain. Simultaneously, Saudi Arabia launched strikes against Houthi rebels in Hodeida, Yemen, after the militia implemented a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia and attacked Red Sea oil tankers.

Diplomatic efforts continue as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Iranian counterpart in Kyrgyzstan to urge a return to peace negotiations. Trump indicated that Iran must choose between a negotiated settlement or facing a much higher level of military escalation.
