Trump Administration Spends $1.5 Million on Taxpayer-Funded Ads

The White House is facing bipartisan criticism for spending over $1.4 million on television advertisements glorifying President Donald Trump ahead of the November midterm elections.

The White House of the United States has launched a series of television advertisements featuring President Donald Trump, with total spending estimated between $1.4 million and $1.5 million. The campaign includes a 30-second spot on defeating communism and socialism, a video featuring a speech at Mount Rushmore, and a black-and-white advertisement titled Final Battle. The latter repurposes 2024 campaign footage in which Trump vows to expel warmongers, globalists, and the deep state.

The administration defends the spots as educational and unapologetically patriotic public service announcements. Officials argue the ads are non-partisan because the president is not on the ballot and the videos contain no call to action. However, the campaign has drawn sharp bipartisan condemnation. Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin and Senator Maggie Hassan allege the ads violate the Hatch Act and federal appropriations laws prohibiting the use of public funds for propaganda. Republican Senator Thom Tillis and Senate Majority Leader John Thune also criticized the expenditure as inappropriate, with Tillis comparing the tactics to those of Viktor Orban.

Legal disputes have also emerged over the production. R&B artist JMSN stated he did not authorize the use of his song Love Me in the advertisements and is seeking legal counsel. In response to the controversy, the non-profit Public Citizen filed a complaint with the Government Accountability Office and the Office of Special Counsel. While Democratic leaders have demanded the ads be removed, a Republican-led Congress is unlikely to hold formal oversight hearings before the November midterms.
