Saudi Arabia Coordinates Security with US and Ties with Canada

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed US-Iran tensions with Donald Trump and established a comprehensive bilateral cooperation framework with Canada during Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman coordinated with United States and Canadian leadership this week to address regional security threats and institutionalize new diplomatic partnerships. On Friday, Mohammed bin Salman held a telephone call with US President Donald Trump to discuss the stability of maritime navigation and the protection of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz. This conversation followed Iranian attacks on commercial oil tankers and subsequent US airstrikes within Iran. During the call, Donald Trump stated that while the United States would continue talks with Iran, "the ceasefire was effectively over following the latest exchange of attacks."

To support these high-level discussions, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan coordinated with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to maintain regional stability. These diplomatic efforts occur as Egypt, Qatar, and Pakistan urge a return to dialogue to prevent a broader regional conflict.

Simultaneously, Saudi Arabia expanded its ties with Canada during a meeting in Jeddah on Thursday. This visit marked the first time a Canadian prime minister has visited the kingdom in 25 years. Mohammed bin Salman and Prime Minister Mark Carney signed a Joint Action Document and established the Saudi-Canadian Coordination Council. Led by the foreign ministers of both nations, the council is designed to institutionalize strategic cooperation across political, security, defense, and economic sectors, including trade, investment, and scientific exchange.
