Russia Threatens UK After British Drones Strike Russian Mainland
Prime Minister Andy Burnham vowed continued full support for Ukraine after Russia threatened the UK with consequences for supplying long-range drones used in strikes on Russian territory.
The Government of the Russian Federation has threatened the United Kingdom with inevitable consequences following reports that British-made drones were used by Ukraine to conduct deep strikes on the Russian mainland. The Russian embassy in London accused Britain of acting as an accomplice and co-perpetrator of terrorist attacks, specifically citing the use of Nyan jet-powered drones developed by a BAE Systems subsidiary to target oil refineries, energy facilities, and warehouses belonging to the retailer Wildberries.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham rejected the threats, affirming that the UK will support Ukraine 100 percent to ensure it can defend itself against the illegal war led by Vladimir Putin. The UK Ministry of Defence has committed to a £752 million funding package to provide 150,000 drones by the end of 2026 and plans to share Stone Cloak electronic warfare technology to disrupt Russian air defenses.
Russian officials and state media have escalated the rhetoric, with former Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Fedorov suggesting Russia has the right to strike the UK. State TV host Vladimir Solovyov claimed Russia would wipe the UK off the face of the earth and called for the destruction of British factories. In response to potential UK actions against its shadow fleet, Vladimir Putin threatened to seize British ships in the Pacific.
These tensions coincide with a surge in Ukrainian long-range activity that has caused an estimated £35 billion in economic damage to Russia. Simultaneously, MI5 Director-General Ken McCallum warned that Russian state actors continue to attempt surveillance, sabotage, and arson on British soil.
