Zelensky Visits Erdogan in Istanbul to Discuss Black Sea Security

President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war and security for commercial vessels in the Black Sea.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to Istanbul on Saturday for a working visit with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The leaders plan to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, international developments, and the security situation in the Black Sea.

A primary objective of the meeting is to enhance bilateral cooperation between Turkiye and Ukraine. A central point of contention is the continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Black Sea. President Erdogan previously described these attacks as "unacceptable" during a September address to the UN General Assembly.

While Ankara has proposed an end to strikes on civilian ships, neither Russia nor Ukraine has acted on the proposal. President Erdogan recently informed U.S. President Donald Trump that Turkiye remains ready to support diplomatic efforts to end the conflict through negotiations.
