Donald Trump Condemns Nobel Committee After Navi Pillay Wins Prize

President Donald Trump criticized the Norwegian Nobel Committee and sanctioned the International Criminal Court after South African jurist Navi Pillay was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

President Donald Trump condemned the Norwegian Nobel Committee as a "total disgrace" after it awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to South African jurist and former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay. Speaking at campaign rallies in New York and Syracuse, Trump asserted that the prize has been ruined by political bias and described the decision as an "indelible stain on the country of Norway."

Trump claimed he deserved eight separate prizes for settling eight wars, including conflicts involving Israel and Hamas, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and a May 2026 ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He alleged he saved 50 million lives by preventing nuclear conflict in South Asia and stopped Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. While Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif supported these claims and noted Pakistan had nominated Trump for the prize, the Government of India denied any U.S. mediation, stating the ceasefire during Operation Sindoor resulted from direct military-to-military contact.

In response to the award, the United States government imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court, where Pillay previously served as a judge, citing concerns over American sovereignty. Pillay, who received the award for her work against war crimes and genocide, mocked the president during her acceptance speech, suggesting she might share the prize if the crowd clapped more.
