Pezeshkian Credits Regional Cooperation for Withstanding West Asia Conflict

President Masoud Pezeshkian stated in a televised address on August 7, 2026, that coordinated governance and cooperation with neighboring countries enabled Iran to withstand the West Asia conflict. He asserted that ordinary citizens "didn't feel the war at all" despite attacks on critical infrastructure, such as power plants, attributing this stability to effective crisis management by provincial administrations and government agencies.

Pezeshkian credited regional cooperation for thwarting adversary attempts to incite unrest in the northwest and southeast border regions. These comments come amid heightened tensions with the United States, following warnings from President Donald Trump that Iran would be "hit very hard" if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.

In response to external pressures, Acting Defence Minister Brigadier General Majid Ebn-e-Reza affirmed that the Iranian military is fully prepared to counter external threats. Simultaneously, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei denied reports that Tehran is currently engaged in negotiations with Washington.
