Trump Touted Economic Projects Amid Election Campaign

President Donald Trump is promoting billions in new factories and energy projects as economic wins, though some projects remain uncertain or years from completion.

President Donald Trump is promoting billions of dollars in new factories, energy projects, and jobs as evidence of his economic success while campaigning for Republicans ahead of the November elections. He has tied specific benefits to Republican victories, including a proposed $5,000 dividend for all U.S. adults if Republicans retain congressional control and the year-round sale of E15 fuel if Senator Roger Marshall is re-elected.

A Reuters review indicates that several of these touted projects are uncertain or years from completion. These include a $54 billion Alaska LNG pipeline and a Texas power plant, both part of a $200 billion South Korean pledge that Seoul says has not yet been decided. Additionally, Mesabi Metallics stated that a $15 billion steel complex in Iowa will not begin production until 2030.

Other discrepancies include a quartz mining investment in North Carolina announced by Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick; the producer, Sibelco, clarified the federal investment would be $56 million, a fraction of the amount touted by the administration. White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers defended the president's record, stating he is leading an "aggressive, pro-growth economic and energy dominance agenda."
