UK Shares Classified Missile Blueprints With Ukraine

Prime Minister Andy Burnham authorized the release of classified SCALP missile data to enable domestic Ukrainian production during a visit to Kyiv.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced on Monday that the United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with classified technical information to enable the domestic assembly of SCALP cruise missiles. During his first international trip since taking office on July 20, Burnham authorized the European defense manufacturer MBDA to release blueprints for UK-made components of the air-launched missiles, which are the French equivalent of the Storm Shadow. The move is intended to help Ukraine and France establish local production lines by the end of the year to strike hardened military targets up to 150 miles inside Russian territory.

Burnham arrived in Kyiv to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, where he laid a wreath at the National Military Cemetery and co-chaired a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The diplomatic gathering included leaders from Moldova, Estonia, Luxembourg, and the European Council. The initiative complements Project Brakestop, a UK effort to develop low-cost advanced long-range strike weapons.

Russia condemned the decision, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stating that British involvement in strikes against Russia constitutes participation in the war. The Russian Embassy in London branded the UK an accomplice and co-perpetrator of Ukrainian attacks. Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hosted the visit amid domestic instability following the sacking of former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov and allegations of corruption within his inner circle, which Zelenskyy has denied.
