Admiral Brad Cooper Concludes Middle East Tour Amid Regional Tensions

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, concluded a 10-day tour of the Middle East on Saturday. His itinerary included visits to Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. During the trip, Cooper visited the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea, where the aircraft carrier has maintained a naval blockade against Iran for over 240 consecutive days. Cooper described the deployment as one of the most operationally intense and consequential of the modern era, though reports indicate the crew has faced mental health and supply challenges.

Regional volatility continued as Israel conducted airstrikes in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah commanders Abu Hassan Alaa and Ali Samir Al-Haj Hassan, leaving at least 11 people dead. In Cairo, a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya met with Egyptian intelligence officials to discuss a Gaza ceasefire based on a peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the proposal.

Diplomatic friction also emerged between Iran and Qatar. The Iranian government accused Qatar of holding three missing Iranian pilots, a claim the Qatari government denied.
