Congress Demands Modi Apologize After Police Use AK-47s in Bihar

The Indian National Congress has condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party following allegations that police used AK-47 rifles against student protesters in the Siwan district of Bihar on July 25. The protests were part of a broader movement by student organizations opposing the NEET paper leak. A viral video purportedly showing a police constable using the rifle led to the officer's suspension.

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and characterized the government's actions as "murderous against students." Other Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, questioned the use of military-grade weapons and cited the use of pellet guns during protests in Delhi.

Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha stated that no injuries occurred and confirmed an inquiry is underway. The BJP rejected the opposition's claims, accusing Rahul Gandhi of spreading "canards and falsity" in an attempt to "manufacture a protest" and incite anarchy.
