Trump Renames Lake Ontario as Lake America Amid Trade Feud

President Donald Trump renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America for government use and eased beef tariffs amid escalating trade tensions with Canada.

President Donald Trump signed an order renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America for U.S. government purposes, escalating a trade feud with Canada following the collapse of trade negotiations. The U.S. Trade Representative indicated the administration is considering outright bans on certain Canadian goods as part of the dispute.

Simultaneously, Trump temporarily eased tariffs on beef imports to lower consumer prices. This decision drew criticism from rural Republicans and American ranchers. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller warned that the move harms domestic producers and noted that importing foreign beef has complicated the problem.

On international security, Trump stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attack NATO territory. This claim follows a secret trip to Moscow by CIA Director John Ratcliffe to deliver warnings against such aggression. Domestically, Trump traveled to Houston, Texas, to headline a Republican National Committee fundraiser for Senate nominee Ken Paxton in a closely contested race against Democrat James Talarico.
