Russia and China Mark 25th Anniversary of Strategic Treaty
Russia and China celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship, and Cooperation, highlighting a trade partnership now exceeding $200 billion annually.
Russia and China marked the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship, and Cooperation on July 16, 2026. The agreement, originally signed in 2001 by Vladimir Putin and Jiang Zemin, established a strategic partnership based on equality, non-interference, and mutual respect.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the agreement as a foundation for a multipolar world order. He noted that trade turnover between the two nations has increased over thirtyfold and now exceeds $200 billion annually. The partnership currently spans agriculture, technology, energy, and peaceful nuclear power.
To reduce reliance on the US dollar and euro, both nations have shifted toward using national currencies for financial settlements. They continue to coordinate efforts through the United Nations, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to oppose Western-led security projects in the Asia-Pacific region and unilateral sanctions.
