Trump Interference Complicates Todd Blanche Attorney General Nomination

President Donald Trump disrupted multiple Justice Department cases and delayed Todd Blanche's attorney general confirmation through contradictory directives and direct interference in criminal investigations.

President Donald Trump interfered in several Justice Department affairs, endangering criminal cases and stalling the confirmation of Todd Blanche as attorney general. Court documents revealed Trump ordered Secret Service agents to deliver interview summaries regarding former FBI Director James B. Comey directly to him while aboard Air Force One, leading Comey's legal team to characterize the prosecution as retaliatory.

In another instance, a case brought by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro against David Hearn for vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool collapsed after Pirro admitted that construction failures caused the damage rather than vandalism.

Trump also hindered the confirmation process for Todd Blanche by sending contradictory messages regarding a $1.8 billion compensation fund for January 6 rioters, which alienated supporters such as Senator Thom Tillis. The deadlock broke late Sunday when Blanche released documents rescinding the fund and clarifying tax protections. However, Trump subsequently claimed he had no knowledge of the revised plan.
