JD Vance Declines to Endorse Benjamin Netanyahu Ahead of Elections

Vice President JD Vance refused to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for re-election, contrasting with a full endorsement from President Donald Trump.

Vice President JD Vance declined to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of the October 27 Knesset elections. Speaking in North Carolina and in an interview with Mark Halperin, Vance stated he would not get involved in the foreign electoral process, choosing instead to focus on candidates for the upcoming U.S. midterm elections.

This neutrality contrasts with President Donald Trump, who issued a complete and total endorsement of Netanyahu on October 18. Trump praised the Israeli leader as a warrior and a key partner in the fight against the Islamic Republic of Iran. While Vance acknowledged that Trump possesses the most influential endorsement in political history, he maintained his neutral stance, despite having previously endorsed right-wing figures in Europe such as Hungary's Viktor Orban.

Vance's position follows previous criticisms of the Israeli government, including warnings that Israel cannot solve every national security problem through military force and arguments that U.S. Middle East policy should not be subservient to Israel. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth conducted an unannounced visit to Israel on Monday, meeting with Netanyahu at a southern desert air force base to discuss potential military operations against Iran. Current polls show the Yashar party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, leading Netanyahu's Likud party.
