Leaked Pentagon Brief Warns of US Defeat in Taiwan Conflict

A leaked top-secret Pentagon assessment, titled the Overmatch Brief, warns that the United States would suffer a devastating defeat in a conflict over Taiwan. Prepared by the Office of Net Assessment, the report indicates that China could overwhelm U.S. forces using approximately 600 hypersonic weapons, including the YJ-17, and nuclear-powered submarines. War simulations suggest catastrophic losses, including the destruction of the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier and over 100 fifth-generation aircraft.

The brief highlights a systemic American reliance on expensive, vulnerable legacy platforms compared to China's ability to mass-produce cheaper, technologically advanced weaponry. Additionally, the document reveals that a China-backed hacking group, Volt Typhoon, has embedded malware within U.S. military base infrastructure. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth noted that U.S. forces lose every time in these simulations.

In response to these vulnerabilities, President Donald Trump appointed Dan Driscoll as drone czar to modernize U.S. technology, and Congress approved $1 billion for small drone production. Despite the brief's warnings, the Pentagon continues plans to build nine additional Ford-class carriers. Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping has ordered military readiness by 2027, declaring the takeover of Taiwan a historical necessity.
