Ukraine Launches Logistical Lockdown Campaign Against Russian Supply Lines

Ukraine initiated a $113 million strike program targeting Russian oil infrastructure and critical supply routes to disrupt offensive operations in the south.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the General Staff launched the Logistical Lockdown program on May 27, 2026, to systematically destroy Russian operational rear infrastructure. The initiative involves a $113 million allocation—initially distributed via the e-Bal system to high-performing units—to procure medium-range strike capabilities and AI-assisted Hornet drones. These assets are being used to neutralize transport vehicles on the R-280 highway, a primary artery connecting Rostov-on-Don to Crimea through occupied Mariupol and Melitopol.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the campaign includes expanded long-range drone and missile attacks reaching 1,000 miles into Russian territory, specifically targeting oil refineries and storage facilities to deplete Russian oil revenues. The impact of these strikes became evident on May 29, when 483 Russian transport vehicles were reportedly destroyed in a single day, leading to gasoline rationing in Crimea and severe fuel shortages for Russian forces on the southern front.

In response to these strikes, President Vladimir Putin vowed retaliation and deployed the nuclear-capable Oreshnik missile system. Russian officials have alleged that the operations are supported by the CIA and MI-6, citing a previous joint effort known as Operation Spiderweb that targeted Russian air bases. Ukrainian officials maintain that the disruption of logistics has significantly increased Russian casualties, with monthly losses exceeding 35,000 killed or seriously wounded soldiers.
