Trump Administration Allegedly Backs Alberta Separatists With Financial Offers

The administration of Donald Trump is allegedly collaborating with the Alberta Prosperity Project (APP) to encourage Alberta's secession from Canada. U.S. State Department and Treasury officials reportedly held secret meetings with the separatist group, which is currently seeking signatures for an independence referendum. APP lawyer Jeffrey Rath claims the U.S. government is discussing a $500 billion line of credit from the U.S. Treasury to bankroll the transition to a new country.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent publicly endorsed the concept of Alberta joining the United States during the World Economic Forum in Davos, describing the province as a natural partner. While a U.S. State Department official confirmed meetings occurred, they stated that no formal commitments were made.

Canadian officials and labor organizations have reacted with condemnation. British Columbia Premier David Eby characterized the effort to seek foreign assistance to break up the country as treason. The Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Alberta Federation of Labour denounced the movement as foreign interference and a precursor to U.S. annexation. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith affirmed her support for a sovereign Alberta within a united Canada, while Prime Minister Mark Carney stated he expects the U.S. to respect Canadian sovereignty, framing the tension against a backdrop of his criticisms regarding American hegemony.
