Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Campaign Against Russian Energy and Military Infrastructure

Ukraine executed a synchronized long-range drone offensive targeting Russian oil refineries, weapon plants, and fuel hubs, prompting Vladimir Putin to vow escalated retaliation.

Between June 11 and June 14, 2026, Volodymyr Zelenskyy oversaw a massive escalation in long-range drone and missile strikes against Russian industrial and military infrastructure. The campaign targeted oil refineries in Tatarstan, including TANECO and TAIF-NK, the Tolyattikauchuk rubber plant in Samara, and the VNIIR Progress navigation plant in Cheboksary. Ukraine also struck the Azot chemical complex in Tula, which produces artillery explosives, and critical fuel reserves in Yaroslavl. A targeted operation by the 1st Separate Assault Regiment crippled supply bridges in Crimea, contributing to a severe fuel crisis on the peninsula.

Russia responded with retaliatory strikes on Ukrainian energy and transport infrastructure, specifically targeting railway stations and electrical substations in the Sumy region. Russian drones also hit a spent nuclear fuel storage facility near Chernobyl and residential areas in Mykolaiv and Chernihiv. On the ground, Russian forces concentrated efforts to capture Kostyantynivka to secure a path toward Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

Vladimir Putin acknowledged that Ukrainian strikes caused economic damage and sought to sow societal confusion, but claimed Russia was recovering quickly. He rejected face-to-face peace talks with Zelenskyy and promised to intensify attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy characterized the drone operations as long-range sanctions intended to deprive the Russian war machine of essential funding and resources.
