Trump Launches Operation Economic Outcast to Collapse Iranian Regime

President Donald Trump has launched a massive financial pressure campaign and naval blockade against Iran, rejecting diplomatic talks in favor of severing Tehran's economic lifelines.

President Donald Trump has rejected diplomatic negotiations with Iran, opting instead for a strategy of maximum economic pressure termed Operation Economic Outcast. Launched by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the campaign seeks to collapse the Iranian regime by imposing secondary sanctions on shipping, aviation, gold, and digital assets. Bessent warned that any nation or financial institution facilitating Iranian transactions risks being cut off from the U.S. dollar financial system, a strategy he described as an Economic D-Day.

This escalation follows six months of military conflict that began with Operation Epic Fury in February 2026. While Trump asserts the Strait of Hormuz is open and cleared of mines, intelligence reports indicate a significant drop in traffic. Tensions spiked recently after a Kuwaiti crude oil tanker was struck near the Omani coast. The administration has further rejected a June memorandum of understanding, stalling efforts to reopen the strait and address Iran's nuclear program.

In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have reached a revenue-sharing agreement with Oman to control the strait, though U.S. officials dismissed the deal as meaningless under the current blockade. While the United Arab Emirates announced a halt to trade with Iran, reports indicate that Iranian banking and business activities continue in Dubai. Meanwhile, mediators from Qatar, Pakistan, and Oman have attempted to relaunch diplomacy in Tehran, but the U.S. maintains that no talks are scheduled.
