Israeli Trust in Donald Trump Hits Lowest Since 2024
The Israel Democracy Institute reports a sharp decline in Israeli confidence regarding Donald Trump's commitment to national security and widespread opposition to Benjamin Netanyahu's reelection.
A survey conducted between May 31 and June 5 and released by the Israel Democracy Institute reveals a significant decline in Israeli confidence regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's commitment to Israeli security. Public trust has fallen to its lowest level since late 2024, with only 44% of Israelis believing Israel's security is a central consideration for Trump, down from 60% in March. This shift is most acute among Jewish Israelis, whose confidence dropped from 64% to 41%, while confidence among Arab Israelis rose from 43% to 59%.
Israeli public opinion remains skeptical of a potential U.S.-Iran agreement. While 56% believe such a deal could prevent nuclear development, only 32% expect it to eliminate ballistic missile threats and only 28% believe it would weaken the Iranian regime. Overall, 57.5% of respondents believe that ending the conflict with Iran under current frameworks would harm Israeli security interests.
Domestically, the survey highlights continued dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Approximately 61% of respondents state that Netanyahu should not run in the next Knesset election. Additionally, only 17.5% of the public views the government's handling of Hezbollah as good or excellent.
