Iran Strikes U.S. Military Sites in Bahrain and Kuwait

Iran launched drone and missile attacks against U.S. military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait following airstrikes by the United States against Iranian infrastructure.

The Government of Iran launched a systematic campaign of drone and missile strikes against Bahrain and Kuwait on June 29, 2026. The attacks, claimed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organization, targeted U.S. military installations and residential areas. In Bahrain, a building near the international airport was damaged, while Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted two ballistic missiles.

These strikes followed U.S. airstrikes against Iranian surveillance and air defense sites. President Donald Trump stated the U.S. actions were a response to Iran violating a ceasefire by attacking the Panamanian-flagged tanker Kiku. Trump previously threatened to target Iranian leaders unless an interim peace deal was upheld.

In the aftermath, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that Tehran must govern the Strait of Hormuz and warned that any separate arrangements for the waterway would increase tension. Iran further threatened to halt peace negotiations if Washington continues its attacks, insisting that the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon also be resolved as part of any deal. The Trump administration maintains that technical talks remain on track.

Bahrain condemned the aggression as a violation of sovereignty and called for an urgent United Nations Security Council session to implement Resolution 2817 (2026). The Gulf Cooperation Council, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Canada expressed solidarity with Bahrain.
