Australia Maintains Russian Fuel Ban Despite Trump-Putin Deal

Australia will continue blocking Russian fuel imports despite a new agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to release Russian diesel into global markets.

The Australian Government will maintain its import ban on Russian fuel despite a new agreement between United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to release Russian diesel into global markets. President Trump announced the initial release of approximately 13.5 million barrels of fuel starting this month, an action intended to lower global fuel prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.

Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen confirmed that Australia will not change its approach regardless of U.S. policy. Bowen stated that the country has no need for Russian fuel and intends to block revenue for Moscow's war efforts. He noted that Australia currently holds 43 days of petrol reserves and 31 days of diesel stocks, ensuring energy security without relying on Russian supplies.
