Iran and US Resume Talks Amid Escalating Military Conflict

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran will resume negotiations with the United States, stating diplomacy should be pursued even if the success probability is only 10 percent. This overture follows a collapse of a temporary peace deal after Iranian strikes in Jordan killed two US service members. In response, President Donald Trump declared the deal over, leading to US bombardments of Iranian energy, air defense, and surveillance infrastructure, alongside a naval blockade of key ports. Iran has retaliated with large-scale drone and missile attacks on Gulf countries hosting US bases.

Araghchi revealed that a high-level security breach, which he claims likely still exists, enabled a February 28 joint US-Israeli strike in Tehran's Pasteur region. The attack killed former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and 40 senior commanders during parallel government meetings. Araghchi alleged the breach allows enemies to track leadership routines and potentially influence Iranian decision-making. He further claimed the US initiated a 40-day war after Iran rejected demands for zero uranium enrichment, dismissing US attempts to use infrastructure bribes to secure concessions.

While the Supreme National Security Council collectively decided to end the previous conflict, current Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei holds the final authority on the current ceasefire. Khamenei has warned the US of unforgettable lessons if attacks continue, while Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened a full-force response to any further Iranian missile strikes.
